TY Musical - 'The Show Must Go On!'

23-March-22

We don’t talk about Bruno....but we definitely talk about ‘The Show Must Go On’! Transition Year students worked immensely hard on their variety show. The show took place on the 14th and 15th of March in the school gym.

The variety show featured unforgettable songs from musicals such as Hamilton, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Waitress, Sister Act, The Lion King, and many more. Apart from musicals, there was also a skit from Derry Girls, an ABBA mash-up, a dance performed from Teen Beach Movie, and a performance of the hit ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ from Encanto. There was something for every audience member in the show, without a doubt!

The incredible talent of individual TY students was also included, such as Beth Halligan and Tamara Keidia each performing pieces on the piano, Ella Foley performing a contemporary dance that she choreographed herself to the song ‘Train Wreck’ by James Arthur, and a comedy skit called ‘Chillaxing with Emma’ with Emma Dempsey.

The show closed with the hit song ‘This is Me’ from the 2017 musical-drama ‘The Greatest Showman’, with each performer representing the theme ‘People around the World’. This included students dressing in clothes from many different countries, cultures, and careers. It was a truly wonderful way to end the show.

TY students would like to say a huge thank you to all the teachers involved in the production of the show, such as Mr Scanlon, Mr Grant, Ms Brennan, Ms Matthey, Ms O’Sullivan, and everyone else who focused their time and energy into allowing the show to run as smoothly as it did. As is commonly said in TY, we really ‘got to’ participate in such a great activity, together as a year group.
