Last week, we celebrated College Awareness Week in the Pres with a calendar full of exciting events. The theme for College Awareness Week 2025 was “Many Paths, One Future – Think College, Think You!”, which celebrated the variety of opportunities open to our students as they plan their futures. Students were encouraged to explore, ask questions, and discover that there are many ways to reach their goals.
There was a great line-up of activities, including Career Profile Posters from past pupils, #RealCareerStories videos from parents, and a Career Investigation Competition for juniors and seniors. These initiatives aimed to inspire students to actively engage with their interests and talents while considering various educational and career pathways. By fostering a supportive environment, we hope to empower them to make informed decisions about their futures.
On Monday, November 17th, our first-year students attended a talk by past pupil Roisin Morrissey, who spoke about her career as a hairdresser, including her training and on-the-job experience. Staff and students were also treated to some helpful hair tips!
On Wednesday, November 19th, we welcomed the SETU Women in Tech team, who facilitated a ‘Capture the Flag’ workshop with our 2nd and 3rd years. It was lovely to hear from our own past pupil Emma, who talked about her journey from Pres to Creative Computing in SETU.
On Thursday 20th of November our 6th-year students were treated to a talk about DARE and HEAR with Maeve Minihane from University College Cork (UCC), and we were delighted to welcome past pupil Dawn O'Sullivan from Bausch and Lomb, who spoke to 3rd-year geography students about local industry and her own career path in pharmaceutical science.
The week ended with a career investigation prizegiving for junior and senior students. Overall, our students enjoyed a fun and informative College Awareness Week.
